About me:
I live in the beautiful town of Davis, California with my husband of many years and our two young children. My interest in pregnancy and birthing began as an undergraduate at UC Davis where I studied Sociology. Over the course of my work at the University, I found myself drawn to the study of women’s health and birthing practices. I spent a great deal of time studying the different approaches to birthing across the world, and was shocked at how unsupported the average women birthing in America was. In virtually all other cultures, experienced women traditionally surrounded birthing women during labor, however this seemed to have been lost in American births. It was around this time, that I discovered the role of the modern doula in maternity care, and was both fascinated and inspired. Since then, I have been lucky enough to not only experience birth twice myself, but also to be witness and take part in to a number of amazing births.
I believe very strongly in the power of women, and in their innate ability to birth their babies. My role as a doula is to help support and encourage women as they journey through labor and to stand witness to their experience.
